Thanks For A Job Well Done

Sarah Dean, Emergency Planning Manager at Blackpool Council has this week received a letter from Joan Humble MP thanking Sarah, her team and the Voluntary Agencies for assisting members of the community and holiday makers during two recent fires in Blackpool.

On the 15th and 17th September two separate fires broke out in Blackpool resulting in local homes and hotels having to be evacuated. With support from Lancashire County Council and various voluntary agencies, Blackpool Council opened up Rest Centres to take care of the needs of all evacuees during a very traumatic time.

All agencies involved regularly exercise their Rest Centre plans to ensure that every eventuality can be met during a real incident and Blackpool Council had held a rest centre exercise on the 13th September which meant that staff and volunteers opened the rest centre three times in five days.

As this letter proves practice makes perfect.
